SHPE National: Established in 1974Mission
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize their fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. Vision SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. National History SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation. For more information, please visit SHPE's national website: http://www.shpe.org/ |
U of U Chapter GoalMission
Our chapter aims to provide adequate resources and opportunities for all our members to thrive during their time at the U. This means giving our members exposure to prospective careers after graduation, providing academic support, and creating a network of support in our chapter, and doing outreach efforts in our community to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. Vision We aim to accomplish our professional and academic goals through a variety of workshops and networking with the help of our local SHPE professional chapter. These workshops include resume reviews, interview mocks, and networking advice workshops. We also aim to inform our members of local engineering paths through company visits. Creating a positive impact on our community is one of our priorities. We travel to local schools to perform STEM demonstrations and speak to kids about their potential in this field. By exemplifying good role models, we hope to inspire the next generation of Hispanic engineers. |
